Oh so intricate.

First off, I have to say; welcome to the new layout. I like it.

Secondly, I love my job.

Yes, yes I do. I had my third day today in the office and it’s pretty cool. C and I are getting along well, and he is teaching me many things (about finance and trying to get me in on ‘the Secret’)! The current project I’m working on at the moment is fairly boring, but important in establishing the client base for the company. It’s a challenge, but a relaxing one, sort of like a crossword puzzle if you will.

I’ve kinda added a few bits and pieces in the office, I took along my iPod stereo (a good one, mind you, not a cheap <$50 one) and left it there along with some snacks and things. It’s pretty cool. The dress so far has been relaxed casual, but I’ve made an effort to look presentable even if I don’t have to meet any clients for now. I actually went out shopping the week before and bought plenty of casual button up blouses which I could wear both to the office and around town, so it’s cool.

After this project is done (I’m about half way), I’ll get to focus more on the admin and personal assistant side of things, which I’ve come to learn is a very broad job description. Just today I was googling for various wine plans for C to join so he could gift them. I’ll even get to go out and meet clients with C! Top stuff, will have to dress up and look extra pretty too. Actually, today aside from my usual data entry, I was also on the phone to the tech because our software package was creating a headache for C and I (though, mostly for C). I’ve been on the phone a few times to him, and our problem doesn’t seem to be one which can be solved permanently unless C spends $xxxx to get some server or something installed, I really don’t know. I’m just the PA. I get coffee, files and sometimes laundry.

I’m really having a blast working there. I think C is looking for a protege or something, because he let me do some calculations this afternoon also, which I believe I failed miserably in, but I gave it a go anyways. Finance is something I doubt I could ever really get into, but we’ll never know. C is trying to talk me out of the Police, but I told him I’m way too righteous and ethical to live in the world of grey that is finance brokering lol. Should be getting paid tomorrow, which means money on Monday! Yay! Just in time for the holidays*!

*By holidays I mean ‘Catch-up-on-uni-stuff Week!’. I am so over uni right now. Today marks the end of Week 10. I have just three weeks to complete three pieces of assessment. That’s one a week, but they’re all due in Week 12. Sigh. Lucky I only have the one exam (on Chinese culture lol). This semester has been far too long. I really can’t wait for the Summer and Summer semester! C says I can probably work more (lol, there I go, talking about work again).

I finished writing my Sociology paper on ‘The Exodus of The Queensland Police Service: Increasing job satisfaction and decreasing police turnover’, and even handed it in a whole day before it was due. I was so chuffed!

So WP word count tells me I’m nearing 600 words. I really should blog more often!

Good news, everyone!

Ahhh, well hello there.

So it turns out I have a job, I start Friday! So I’m a Personal Assistant at a Finance company, which is cool, so much to learn, which is even better. I’m very much excited to be taking on this role because it’s just a simple company and from what I can see, there will be little politics. Also the office environment commands relaxed attire so I can buy all the pretty blouses I like, and not have to buy a suit etc (even though I have one already). Anyways, so I checked out my little office today and though it’s sparsely furnished, but it’s all mine and I can deck it out however I please :)

I’m very much excited!!!!!

It’s such a rush..

Well today I headed over to the Convention Centre for the National Careers & Employment Expo. It was a pretty rewarding day. Original plans were meant to be Erin, John and I making our way over, but Erin got tied down with several recruitment tests and group interviews and the like. WHATEVERRRRR (Nah, getting a job is pretty important, as demonstrated by my attendance at a careers expo).

I ended up doing the rounds, grabbing my free stationery items and talking to relevant exhibitors of interest. Spoke to a few I wouldn’t of normally considered and found some new options to consider. When 2010 rolls around; and I’m up for a sea change, I think I may take up policing interstate and expand my horizon a little. I mean, it’s an option I *could* honestly consider, given the practicalities behind it and the financial remuneration (though that is not what I’m about). There are A LOT more opportunities for merit and promotion in the other states and the trends for QPS could be fairly different when my time for applying as a recruit comes. Oh I don’t know. I’m so keen to just get out there and do something already.

Walking through the city this morning, tall hot chocolate in one hand and the other in deep animated conversation, I noticed the how everyone was sort of a sheep. Get off the bus, grind your way through the masses to work. Work. Eat. Work. Grind your way back to the bus, go home. And then you die. Well, not like that, but essentially that’s what it’s like. I don’t want a 9 - 5 life like that. I want… a 0600 - 1400, or maybe 1400 - 2200, anything on the other side of the clock! Nearly all the jobs I’ve chosen, besides being people oriented, essentially run on rotational shifts, so I must already have a subconscious predisposition to any sort of ‘desk job’.

And now it’s past midnight.. Sleep calls……. zzz

Life’s just a playground..

With my bed commandeered by two dogs at 7:15AM, there’s no point in trying to get back to sleep.

A productive day begins with a productive morning, so this morning I’ve taken the liberty of being awake before 8AM and prepping my final Poli-Sci essay for submission. After many hours of stressing out on how poli-sci essays are vastly different to social science ones, it wasn’t too hard in the end.

I’ve had a pretty good week. Erin and I met up on Tuesday (and yes, she’s still unemployed!) and decided to go shopping at the DFO. I came home with a new suit for the interview I don’t have yet. lol It’s pretty funny. Applications for it are closing today so only one more week to go until notifications for successful applicants! Fingers crossed!

Also have my defensive driving course this Sunday, which I don’t reallllllly want to go to because I’ve double booked myself! BUT, I have to :( Now that I’ve submitted my assignment (as of 10 mins ago), all I have left today is to go and clean a house. Fun, fun, funds!

We can begin again..

Today has just been such a great day!

The most important thing that happened today was the reconciliation of the nubs! Kyrin and I are back! :D

Second most important thing? I’ve applied for a job! A real one! It’s civil service and in law enforcement, so I’m very excited! It’s exactly what I need without sacrificing everything I’ve achieved at uni so far. I don’t want to spill the beans on it just yet for now, but it’s HUGE! I’ve got everything worked out if I do get the job (it’s only a part time position) and it’s a great income supplementer and the best part is? It’s a foot in the door, which is something I couldn’t ask for more. Notifications are released around 8th May so hopefully I can report back here with some good news :D

If I don’t get it though, I’m not too worried as my previous plans aren’t disrupted and I’ll know to work harder for my goals. I’m pretty confident about this one, though I’m unsure how many positions exactly they are looking for. Could be a few since it seems to be a proper intake complete with 5 week (FULLY PAID!) training session.

Gah! I’m so excited that it’s 0018 Monday morning already!

Flora the definite worker bee..

*yawn*

I am SO tired! So today I was cleaning Dawn’s house from 9 and I ended up finishing at 2. Not too bad I suppose. Five hours total and I made $60. This week I have to clean Tatey’s on Friday. And somewhere between today and the weekend I have two final exams! AND WORK! Ugh. My fingertips are all chemically burnt off lol, which is funny since LB sent me a reminder this morning to wear gloves (which I did, mind you!), but they ended up being too cumbersome and inefficient so I took them for and forgot all about them!

I took myself down to Grand Plaza this afternoon for a well deserved lunch of KFC and light shopping. I’ve been trying to buy myself a new lipgloss for ages, and I had checked out this plumping one from Australis, but as it turns out I have rather full and pouty lips anyway so it didn’t really work. Boo.

Weekly schedule (for my convenience):

Mon: Clean Dawn’s house (check)
Tue: SOCY2329 Exam
Wed: CRIM2080 Exam
Thu: Hang out with Erin
Fri: Clean Tatey’s house
Sat: JP (Qual) Exam
Sun: Clean my own house

Ugh indeed.

On a lighter note, binge drinking is something we should applaud and employ as a problem solver.

Florabee the worker bee..?

Going to clean Dawn’s house today.

Give me 6 hours and I’ll be back >.<

Flora the Hero

So I single handedly saved the restaurant last night from a crowd of fat, famished, fatties. I feel good. I worked my butt off. It’s good when people finally leave, and you’ve worked overtime and you can just take off your apron and go ‘Fuck this, I’m going home’ because that’s what I did :D

A couple of random things to begin with, Graham (a regular customer who reminds me of Santa Clause and is full of bad jokes like a Christmas bon bon) managed to upset me with his even more boisterious friend Warrick. Now those two families separate are okay to deal with, but together they pissed me off sooooo bad I had to time out in the kitchen. The worst part was I didn’t have another girl to complain to or do my dirty work :( but anyways, I think Graham knew this as he gave me a big bear hug when he left and said Merry Christmas (which I don’t celebrate, but nevermind). Awww. (Oh and Warrick gave me a 50c tip. Thanks big spender)

Someone serenaded me while I worked. With bagpipes. Yes, bagpipes. It’s really… strange. I guess he was practising in the carpark because if he did anywhere else, people just might throw rocks at him. :(
Also, I booked my hostel for Sydney trip last night also. Gonna be fuckin’ ace. The funny thing is, even though last weekend I was too angry to check out any of the ones I had listed, I knew I had walked past this one, and even eaten at the McDonalds next to it, the thought of staying there never crossed my mind as when I did my first initial hostel searching, I thought the prices there were too $$$, but now with crashing in the Mountains for a week and staying in the City for a week, fiances will be abit more manageable. Plus I like getting spoilt and someone likes spoiling me ^_^ Hehehehe

PC saves the day!

So, the wireless is not working today, so my PC saves the day with its trust old stable connection and ethernet port! I am armed with a 2L bottle of water, a stuffed crust pizza and my iPod, what more can I do?

I’m sending Joely different trance songs! I’ll get him addicted yet :P

Tonight Cara the New Girl TM starts work tonight, so I’ll have to train her and whatnot.. She’s smart enough (well, she seems smart, so did Jacinta but we all know what happened there)

I’m listening to a fair bit of trance songs myself.. Some I haven’t heard in ages! It’s good, I’m listening to all the ones which give me the heebie jeebies, I love how music can do that to you without the aid of drugs and stuff. Have still never used recreational drugs and I hope that sticks.

Oh I found out my Crim exam is actually next Thursday, not Wednesday as I was led to believe. So yeah, oh well, an extra day of study, I’m not complaining :)

I must call Erin tonight and tomorrow I shall book our Hostel thingo for Sydney. I’m quite excited about Sydney actually! Jaff has said he’d take a week off and show us the sights! Which is really nice of him and totally unexpected! Only about.. less than 3 months go?! I honestly just can’t wait to get away from Brisbane, and parents and work etc!

Urgh

Wow, I haven’t been updating as much as I want to, mainly for a few reasons:

  1. I’ve been pretty lazy
  2. Tate’s network has been down since his migration to ADSL2 (Acacia Ridge exchange still hasn’t been fitted yet)
  3. See 1.

I’ve been unwell these last few days. Girl troubles, etc etc etc. Working abit too. IGA is coming along smoothly, although working with school girls who have half a brain is abit.. *shudder*

Flora: Alisha can you please move xyz?
Alisha: Wha….?
Flora: The box.. in front of you, could you move it please?
Alisha: What bo… *trips*
Flora: *sigh*

They are pretty dumb.. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to run a supermarket.. JEEZ! Our restaurant actually moved. We closed last Mon - Wed to move it over, and yesterday we had our first delivery orders! Well 2 of them. And OMG so funny, one was to a street next to where we live, and the other was right next to the other chinese restaurant at the IGA lol! Pwned. Hopefully it will be more busy tonight since it’s Friday. I for once hope it is because there’s no cd player in the new shop and I don’t have any music to listen to.. :(

Edit: Oh yeah, Manjie got desexed!%$@%$ I feel so terrible because she’s angry with me.. She’s in so much pain right now!!! I gave her a hot water bottle and she loves it.. Well she seems content.

Also, Happy Birthday to Sarah. She’s finally 18 and yet still too lazy to do anything about it :)
