Synesthesia

It’s almost the end of the year. Here are some things I have done since last posting:

  • Organised an OCAU BBQ
  • Well so I did! It was a hot day, but it was awesome. So very awesome! Jo came, my brother came, and Steve came too! I think all up, about 25 people showed up, with a few pikers here and there. It was the best. I didn’t cook either, but I did do lots of other running around and stressful shit, I felt that I didn’t need to.

  • Toned and slimmed
  • Well gym is going great. Except now since it’s a small gym, they’ve closed for the Christmas period beginning yesterday!!! WHAT?! Where will I burn my calories now?! Actually, doing yard work and stuff is pretty crazy, more below.

  • Become somewhat of a horticulturalist
  • Only somewhat. I bought a whole bunch of the prettiest flowers the other week from Bunnings and it took me about 2 days to prep the soil before I planted them. It’s NOT as easy as it looks. I have a couple of strawberry plants, a capsicum plant, some roses and a few other cool things (which the name escapes me) to look after. Hopefully pics to come, but since my dad broke my camera when he went to Mackay a few months back, don’t hold your breath.

Also we bought a new lawnmower which has height adjustment, which I swear to god is the best thing since sliced bread, so I’ve been doing weekly lawn maintenance. I fully think the old people across the street are jelly as.

  • Started Summer Semester
  • And I hate it. I really do. If not for the fact that it was shaving a whole semester off my life next year, then I wouldn’t bother. Finding it hard to be motivated now when all my uni friends have graduated and I haven’t. Actually, it’s about time Greg graduated (4 years) but Megan and Aaron are in my cohort, and left without me :(

  • Kicked arse at my job
  • Well yes, I have. I’m good. I know it. You know it. My boss knows it.

  • Joined a Lion Dance team
  • Only as a support member, well, more like unofficial secretary of the club. Which is cool. I like it. I did a whole mailing campaign the other week for promotion, and it caught a few bites, which is cool.

  • Signed up for an Annual Pass @ Wet’n'wild
  • Lex has one too. It’s gonna be AWESOME! We already went on Friday which is cool, they have a new ride there called the Kamikaze, which is not as frightening as it sounds, but mega fucking cool!!

  • Enjoyed Sunnybank Sunday traditions
  • Well every Sunday, at some point of the day, I have been to Sunnybank for food. Steve and I started it in a bid for him to try new things. It was awesome and we soon discovered we really liked a couple of places in particular; Hot & Sour (aka Shanghai Restaurant) and Coffee Square (which isn’t a coffee shop as it’s name would suggest). Anyways, we always alternate between those two, but I think tonight we will be going to Coffee Square as we went to Hot & Sour the last 3 times in a row. Oh and we always get the same things too

Well that’s about it for now, I’m off for a swim :)

The Oxford Handbook of Criminology

Another random title, inspired by the clutter on my desk. It’s creative, no?

This week is mega lazy. I’ve finished uni for the moment (in between semesters actually), and the Boss is overseas, so I don’t have to grind it out on the Gateway for an hour or so. In fact, I’ve just been chilling out at home so far. Routine seems to have gone out the window, life is so different when you’re not bound to the clock. I spent the entire day just about, watching The Shield. Best show ever. I picked up s1-4 for $15 each. What’s not to like, dirty cops going undercover as dirty cops, foul language, realism, gangs, even my dad loves this show. He spent all day watching s1 and I spent all day upstairs with s2. LOL. Funny shit.

Gym is awesome, I’m in my fourth week at the moment, and it’s only getting better. I haven’t been this morning yet, as I figured there was no rush since I’m free all day and stuff. Yesterday I didn’t show up to the gym until 11, but the good thing was that I was able to slog it out for 90 minutes without going ‘Ah shit, I have to go to work now’. So I’m pretty sore. I’m ripping a movie onto my iPod so I can just watch that while cross training; you know, working out the ol’ gluteus maximus, and just get really absorbed. I set up my health fund to pay towards my gym, which is only two months worth of membership, but hey, better than nothing.

On the weekend I also saw a couple of movies; Death Race and Sex drive. Death Race was terrible, absolutely terrible. Okay, well it had its moments, but Statham is getting really overrated. Enough said about that trash. Sex drive was the typical high school-let’s-get-laid-road-trip-movie, kinda in the same vein as Superbad, but not as cringeworthy. It was good, really good. A whole bunch of unknowns in the lead with James Marsden being super cute (and aggressive). Argh, I wanna see it again!

The only reason I’m even bothering to blog is because I’m watching for Handbrake to finish my stupid rip :@

Big fish in a little pond..

Well, lots of things are new.

I joined a gym. Yay! This is my second week, and so far it’s been going pretty well! Didn’t go this morning, as I woke up feeling less than average, and I had a bad sleep, but I’ll probably head on in later in the day. Yesterday I did some laps in the pool. Swimming is HARDCORE!!! I spent about 45 mins in the pool, but only did 20 mins of actual swimming as I had to rest between laps. Actually, I did 2 laps on then rest. Rinse repeat.

Anyways, currently working on my final assessment piece of CRIM3070. It’s a mega long research proposal, which I should’ve finished ages ago, but I decided to take a break between my Monto assignment for SOCY3049 and my presentation. Good call Flora, now you’re pushed for time! Well, not really, this isn’t due until Monday afternoon, but I did take the day off from work on Friday just in case. Oh and Erin finally got a weekend off from work, so we’re gonna do something (like get really nasty drunk on daiquiris and champers). So yes, assignment must be finished before then, hopefully by Friday so I can spend the weekend recovering and spend Monday double checking before submission.

Work at the office has been great. I’m working hard to make myself indispensable. Everything is going really smoothly, and I’ve got loads more responsibilities now. Not to mention a cool as office, on the weekend I got given a significant amount of petty cash which I could use at Officeworks. Bought these cutest document trays that were chocolate lined with sateen. My office’s scheme is pine and chocolate, so it all works out. The drive isn’t tooooooo bad I guess. The Gateway is so hit and miss sometimes. I guess it depends if a truck rolled over or not.

Summer semester is starting soon, never done it before, so we shall see. Actually pretty cut since I could’ve gotten a proper summer job, but no, Flora has to go to uni. Oh well, just means I finish a semester early. Suck it bitches. Okay that was rude, but higher education means a lot to me and I still haven’t fully decided what to commit to next year. I know I want to do a Masters but, right after my undergrad? Hmm.. Or maybe I was thinking full time work and part time uni? Working out great for some people. Yes, I might just do that.

Oh so intricate.

First off, I have to say; welcome to the new layout. I like it.

Secondly, I love my job.

Yes, yes I do. I had my third day today in the office and it’s pretty cool. C and I are getting along well, and he is teaching me many things (about finance and trying to get me in on ‘the Secret’)! The current project I’m working on at the moment is fairly boring, but important in establishing the client base for the company. It’s a challenge, but a relaxing one, sort of like a crossword puzzle if you will.

I’ve kinda added a few bits and pieces in the office, I took along my iPod stereo (a good one, mind you, not a cheap <$50 one) and left it there along with some snacks and things. It’s pretty cool. The dress so far has been relaxed casual, but I’ve made an effort to look presentable even if I don’t have to meet any clients for now. I actually went out shopping the week before and bought plenty of casual button up blouses which I could wear both to the office and around town, so it’s cool.

After this project is done (I’m about half way), I’ll get to focus more on the admin and personal assistant side of things, which I’ve come to learn is a very broad job description. Just today I was googling for various wine plans for C to join so he could gift them. I’ll even get to go out and meet clients with C! Top stuff, will have to dress up and look extra pretty too. Actually, today aside from my usual data entry, I was also on the phone to the tech because our software package was creating a headache for C and I (though, mostly for C). I’ve been on the phone a few times to him, and our problem doesn’t seem to be one which can be solved permanently unless C spends $xxxx to get some server or something installed, I really don’t know. I’m just the PA. I get coffee, files and sometimes laundry.

I’m really having a blast working there. I think C is looking for a protege or something, because he let me do some calculations this afternoon also, which I believe I failed miserably in, but I gave it a go anyways. Finance is something I doubt I could ever really get into, but we’ll never know. C is trying to talk me out of the Police, but I told him I’m way too righteous and ethical to live in the world of grey that is finance brokering lol. Should be getting paid tomorrow, which means money on Monday! Yay! Just in time for the holidays*!

*By holidays I mean ‘Catch-up-on-uni-stuff Week!’. I am so over uni right now. Today marks the end of Week 10. I have just three weeks to complete three pieces of assessment. That’s one a week, but they’re all due in Week 12. Sigh. Lucky I only have the one exam (on Chinese culture lol). This semester has been far too long. I really can’t wait for the Summer and Summer semester! C says I can probably work more (lol, there I go, talking about work again).

I finished writing my Sociology paper on ‘The Exodus of The Queensland Police Service: Increasing job satisfaction and decreasing police turnover’, and even handed it in a whole day before it was due. I was so chuffed!

So WP word count tells me I’m nearing 600 words. I really should blog more often!

Good news, everyone!

Ahhh, well hello there.

So it turns out I have a job, I start Friday! So I’m a Personal Assistant at a Finance company, which is cool, so much to learn, which is even better. I’m very much excited to be taking on this role because it’s just a simple company and from what I can see, there will be little politics. Also the office environment commands relaxed attire so I can buy all the pretty blouses I like, and not have to buy a suit etc (even though I have one already). Anyways, so I checked out my little office today and though it’s sparsely furnished, but it’s all mine and I can deck it out however I please :)

I’m very much excited!!!!!

Lawyers, mortgages and fines.

I’m going to have a whinge, because I am sick.

Yes, it’s terrible, and no, I don’t feel any better. I’ve been feeling ill for the past 3 days with a sore throat coupled with a tummy bug. Not the best combination. Sigh. It’s the end of the world! I can’t get anything done because I’m either too tired and lethargic to sit down and concentrate, or I’m running off to the sink to throw up some more.

Well anyway, yesterday John got admitted as an Australian Legal Practitioner. Congratulations! It was all very exciting. We were in the Blanco Court (Courtroom 8), which is the ceremonial court, and everybody got moved etc. I had a pretty crap seat because a gigantic pillar was in the way, but meh, what can you do? I personally blame John for sitting behind such pillar in the first place lol.

The weekend was good. On Saturday I did my September JP service, and it was fun. It’s awesome to actually put my skills into use, rather than just getting people to come find me at home, which they usually don’t, and I don’t particularly want them to. I also met up and had lunch with James, which was good. Showed him the delights that were Sunnybank danish twists and hot cakes! Fun times. Also got to go on the bike again, yay!

The whole buying property business seems to be going well.. I’ve got dad taking a cheque into the seller’s solicitor’s office so I can pay a deposit of goodwill. Yay. I think I have to go see a mortgage broker sometime this week.. but I don’t know. Gah, this would be so much easier if I had a full time job already. Oh well. If it works, it works, if not, try again next year. Though with the market being a bit slippery now, it’s actually best to buy RIGHT NOW. As opposed to later on.

Today I have to do ALOT of work on my Sociology assignment. I’ve decided to report on the exodus of Queensland Police Service officers. Interesting? I think so. Particularly as it could damn well affect me in the not too distant future. Why would you run into a burning building when everybody else is running out (unless you are a fire fighter, then my analogy is fail)? Then I have to sort out some crap for the mother as she’s gone and gotten herself some fines on the Gateway toll bridge, incidentally, they weren’t her fault as the transponder did not beep (and never has, to my knowledge).

I’m really tired. Uni is going really quickly and I’m so over it. Bring on the Summer semester! 5 weeks of intensive classes studying Chinese literature and Juvenile delinquency should brighten things up. Oh how the call of mid level advanced classes sound so sweet! I’m so over advanced third year classes. Luckily, after I pass these two this semester, I only have one more!

I’m not containable

I honestly can’t believe it’s September!

SEPTEMBER!

It’s been really exciting around these parts lately. Mostly, something incredible has happened (and very quickly, mind you), I put an offer down on a house! A HOUSE! Property! OMG! Hopefully I find out what’s happening with it today, but I have permission to up the offer if they reject it, but everyone knows you always keep an ace up your sleeve in case shit (doesn’t) happen.

So I guess my life plans have changed since I potentially will be a homeowner within the coming months. Wow.. this certainly changes everything I said I was going to be doing (NT etc). But I’ve had a few different thoughts about my future, so all is well. Gah, I change my mind every week lol. But I was deadset still leaving for NT until this house business came up. But I’m excited! I’ve got big plans anyhow. Ambition++

On the downside of today it’s rainy, and depressing and I can’t be arsed to go to uni. Not to mention the unmentionables. I feel sick.

Deal with God..

I’m a bit at a loss for words at what to write.

So, let me tell you about my weekend. Today I’m going to be going to the airport to pick up John’s mum and then we’re going to QPAC for John’s post-graduate studies graduation ceremony. Yay! I’ll get to dress up and stuff. Though, I should probably get a move on since it’s like 9:45 at the moment and I take forever and I have to leave my house at 11:15. Anyways, so that will be fun. Also gotta clean out the car. Boo.

Tomorrow. I’ve no idea yet. So watch this space.

Sunday! It’s kinda jam packed, but I have the whole day and night off, so I’m going to watch John’s hockey game, hard to believe I never made it to any previous ones. And hopefully if times and stuff work out, we can go steam boat for dinner with Tate and co. I’m really enjoying all this time I’m getting to spend doing fun things and not flipping out on my own problems, because they’ve pretty much dissipated and my heart is so much clear with where it wants me to go.

Giving into your emotions is surprisingly easy, like I was saying yesterday. If you do the old cliche ‘follow your heart’ model, then life can be breezy, provided of course that your head and heart don’t form a conflict of interest. Which luckily, mine aren’t. Things are great.

I haven’t gotten around to reading much, which is a shame because I really want to finish the book before spoilers kick in. My brother has already read the wiki and knows what’s going on and it’s taken ALOT of effort to get him to stfu. I kinda don’t like the fact that it’s written in three separate books in both Bella and Jacob’s view. I mean, sure it’s a great confrontation and all, but sometimes when I think about it, it’s all very much over the top, drama theatrics. That or I’ve never been seriously hurt before (which I have, so I tend to think it’s the former). From New Moon, you hardly see any sparks apart from the odd moment of crushing. Bella and Jacob have not so much even been more than friends, but somehow he’s developed some full massive ‘omg can’t live without you!’ point of life. Fair enough.

The Essentials of Corrections

Monday nights = $10.95* steak night at the Calamvale Hotel

Deciding to fully take advantage of that offer, John and I (mostly I) headed off to the ‘Vale and got stuck into some awesome rump, garlic bread and good old alcohol. A must for everyone. We ended up playing 3 games of pool, with me almost winning 2 of them. Actually, I did win them. Screw you John!

Then we got the hint the pub was closing, so we went back to my place and watched The Addams Family movie. Hahahahahaha so much innuendo I never understood when I watched that movie the first time around (in ‘96? I can’t recall).

I’m rather tired. I had a long and boring, emo day. Same again tomorrow then? Sure!

*indicates that a drink must be purchased. John got a beer, I got some midori :D
